This week we are admiring this wonderful painting titled ‘Aries’, by Obi Oguguo. ‘Aries’ was painted in 2020, at Obi’s home, during Lockdown. It is part of our exhibition of Lockdown artworks, ‘As Time Stood Still, Part Two‘. It is quite a big painting and we imagine it taking over the room for a while when he was working on it! Obi stays at home with his family, who are very supportive of his studio time and painting. It’s great they’ve made space in the house to accommodate Obi’s easel during the last year, while the Project Ability studios have been closed!
Many of our visitors will remember Obi’s very popular ‘Happy Cat’ painting the artist made for our 2016 ‘CATS’ exhibition…
With the dedicated support of his family, Obi has become a very talented painter and is now one of our most sought after artists. His artist page shows just some of the amazing artworks he’s made over the last few years. You can find some of his paintings have been used for the design on our tea towels and greeting cards, have a look in our online shop!

There is no doubt that ‘Aries’ is a depiction of the Aries (♈︎) (Latin for “ram“), which is the first astrological sign in the zodiac and a constellation. The paint strokes are Obi’s signature style and we can spot them anywhere. Obi Oguguo ( and family!) will be very welcome back to the studio just as soon as possible. Until then we hope to continue seeing more of his brilliant paintings.
