‘Venus Eye Trap 2’ by Tzipporah Johnston

Artwork of the Week takes a closer look at these intriguing eyes, beautifully stitched into the form of a Venus Flytrap. Created by Tzipporah Johnston, ‘Venus Eye Trap 2’ is a new work, made in 2023. Created with stumpwork embroidery, and encased in a delicate glass cloche, this artwork is an exquisite example of the amazing embroidery work made by Tzipporah. Based in Edinburgh, the artist creates these three dimensional artworks, many with a focus on eyes, in part as a way to express the challenges she faces with autism, as a neurodivergent artist.

My current work entitled The Museum of Monotropism, a mixed media installation about my experiences as an autistic person.

You can read much more about the work and the artist on Tzipporah’s website.

We love her artworks and we are delighted Tzipporah has a number of different embroidery pieces in our current exhibition, Stitched. The exhibition is up until April 1st, come by the Project Ability gallery to see this artwork and many more inspiring embroidery pieces!
