Walking Group: Modern Institute and The Briggait

Despite the weather today, 31 January, our walking group ventured out into the wind and rain to see some local exhibitions. First stop was the Modern Institute in Osborne Street to see ‘Punctures’, an exhibition of paintings by Adam McEwen. We were met by Findlay who gave us a short introduction to the exhibition and a bit of insight into the history of the building. We all enjoyed the imagery in the paintings and there was much discussion about their technical execution.

From here we went across to the other Modern Institute galleries in Aird’s Lane. Here there were exhibitions by two artists; ‘No Words’ by Scott Myles and ‘Prepositions’ by Alex Dordoy. Again everyone was impressed and fascinated by the technical aspects of the works on show.

Finally we crossed over to The Briggait to see ‘CO-LACK-TING’, a joint exhibition by Despoina Isaia and Salli Yule-Tsingas which features works in a range of mediums including painting, embroidery and assemblage sculpture. By the time we came out the clouds had parted and the rain had stopped.

‘Punctures’ continues until 9 March, ‘No Words’  until 24 February and ‘Prepositions’ until 2 March in The Modern Institute galleries. ‘CO-LACK-TING’ is in The Briggait until 26 February.
