Artwork of the Week – lock down still life by Jim Ewan

Artwork of the Week features three paintings created by Project Ability’s very own studio technician, Jim Ewan! Some of you may remember watching the Project Ability drawing and painting tutorials Jim started making back in the 2020 spring lockdown. These three paintings, currently part of our exhibition, ‘As Time Stood Still’ were painted using colours from the kitchen; onion, beetroot, turmeric…! You can see in one of the paintings all of the different colours created by the different food stuffs. As time has not actually stood still since the making of these paintings, the colours have faded a lot, and they have all become a monochromatic version of themselves. Even despite the change of the colours, these paintings are still gorgeous!

You can see the tutorial here on our Youtube channel where you can also see what the colours looked like when the paintings were originally made. There are a lot of great videos on our channel, from tutorials to exhibitions and lots more. Check it out and subscribe!
