It’s been awhile since we’ve had the pleasure of presenting an exhibition at the Project Ability gallery! A lot has happened since then, and a lot hasn’t happened.
Our studios and workshops have been closed since mid March, along with many other spaces around the world. Unfinished paintings left stacked against walls, sitting on easels – waiting for the return of their makers.
Life has changed so much and we are moving forward fast, but before we go ahead we want to look back for a moment. Flashback to February is an exhibition featuring a selection of paintings that were made just before the studios closed. These are paintings that might have been forgotten, archived away and left unseen. So many exhibitions have been cancelled, and many of these paintings would have found their spotlight by now if not for the upheaval… of just about everything.
So we are taking this moment to look back at these artworks, and the rare moment in time they now represent to us at Project Ability. Many of the PA artists are creating work at home until the studios reopen, and we’ll be looking at some of those works later. We’ve been reaching out via Zoom workshops and socially distanced visits when permissible. The last six months have been a defining moment in all of our lives’, and it is sure to find some expressive outlet in all of the Project Ability artists’ artworks!
These sixteen artists are all part of our Aspire workshops which (under usual circumstances) take place throughout the week on the 3rd floor of Trongate 103 in Glasgow’s city centre. All of these paintings are on stretched canvas and have been created in our studios in the lead up to March 2020.
The exhibition is currently hanging in our gallery to be viewed online only. We realise this may cause some barriers for people to enjoy the artworks in the way they would in the gallery, and we welcome suggestions on ways we can improve upon this virtual experience.
Available to purchase
All paintings from this exhibition can now be purchased directly from our online shop! If you would like more information about any of the artworks, please get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org
As always, we’d like to give huge thanks to our exhibition sponsors:
